Why do I need a writer?

There’s a difference between simply having a website and having a website that actually works for you.
Most people can set up a website, write a blurb about themselves, list a few products that they are selling and add in a call to action. And with so many design templates available, you can create something quite professional-looking without much effort at all.
But there is often very little thought for the user experience. Sure, if you are providing a product or service that the user desperately needs, they may well get in touch or place an order. But what if you could also tempt those on the fence or those who had no intention of buying your product or service before they stumbled across your website?
The relationship you build with prospective customers via your website and marketing is key. The user experience with your site and impression of your brand is key. And that is where a professional writer can make all the difference.
A Unique Voice
Unless you are a natural and/or experienced writer, you will probably have one tone to your writing. Your vocabulary may be limited. You may run out of steam and fall short with some of your sections. Ultimately, you may struggle.
A professional writer can adapt their written tone to suit your brand personality and appeal to your target audience. They can make your brand funny or authoritative, quirky or emotive. They will be concise and avoid clichés and tautology. And they will be able to roll it out through the site, branding and marketing so that it is consistent.
You may be selling something as simple as paperclips. But a good writer will know how to make your paperclips sound like the best option available. Your paperclips will have a unique personality and that is what will intrigue and hook a potential customer.
User Experience
One of the most important aspects of a company’s online presence is their ability to engage with the audience and keep them on their website for extended periods. This in turn helps their SEO and Google ranking, apart from fostering the brand’s relationship with its target audience, which will convert to sales.
A writer knows how to manipulate language. They will be able to write content that keeps users on your site longer because your site will offer value: entertainment, information, advice, for example.
For start-ups and fledgling businesses entering a competitive market in particular, it is essential to provide a positive user experience, both technically through the site and through the brand’s voice and personality.
Accuracy
This is probably the most obvious indicator that sets apart a professional and serious company from its competitors. Accuracy is such an easy thing for a professional writer to implement but it is something that a lot of companies overlook and to their detriment.
If you want to present yourself as a serious business then it is imperative that your content is accurate. A writer will know where to place a range of sophisticated punctuation for maximum impact. They will know where to capitalise words and phrases, set paragraphs, spell accurately. And with a lot less consideration than someone who is not a confident writer. At the very least, you should get a writer to proofread your work and eliminate the errors that will just make your audience cringe.
Time
Even if you know you can write quite well, it probably isn’t your primary skill. In such cases, you will need to decide if the days/weeks/months you would spend writing your web and marketing content would be the best use of your time.
Chances are, it would take you a lot longer than a professional copywriter. So, depending on how much time you have, you might prefer to outsource your content writing to allow you to concentrate your efforts on other aspects of your business.
The significance of clear, accurate content, which uniquely characterises your brand, is often overlooked by small businesses. But if you are looking to increase conversions, grow your online presence, build brand authority or simply present your business as more professional, you really should invest in an experienced writer.
